Maizy's Story

Maizy

“When my cat Maizy stopped acting like herself, I knew something wasn’t right. She’s normally playful, curious, and always underfoot. But over the course of a day, she became quiet and withdrawn. She wasn’t eating, and she started vomiting. I could tell she was uncomfortable, and as a pet owner, that feeling of not knowing how to help is terrifying.

After bringing her to the vet, we learned that Maizy had eaten something she shouldn’t have. An object was lodged in her digestive tract, causing a blockage. Without surgery, it could have become life-threatening. The only option was exploratory surgery to locate and remove the object.

Handing her over for surgery was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I was scared—not only for her health, but also because of the unexpected financial burden. I would have done anything to save her, but the cost was overwhelming.

Thankfully, Rochester Hope for Pets stepped in and awarded us $500 toward Maizy’s surgery. Their support eased an enormous amount of stress during an already emotional time. Because of their generosity, Maizy was able to receive the lifesaving procedure she desperately needed.

The surgery was successful. The object was removed, and after a careful recovery period filled with medications, monitoring, and lots of love, Maizy slowly returned to her happy, playful self. Seeing her chase her toys again and curl up beside me is something I no longer take for granted.

Rochester Hope for Pets didn’t just help cover a bill — they helped save Maizy’s life. Their kindness gave my cat a second chance and gave me peace of mind during one of the most difficult moments we’ve faced. I will always be grateful for the compassion and support they showed our family.” - Cameron, Maizy’s dad
